Platani
Introduction
Platani is a rare, white Greek variety from the Southern Cyclades and Crete, belonging to the same "genetic family" as Assyrtiko. Although its presence is limited, Platani is a valuable link in the Aegean vineyard, offering wines with intense freshness, citrus aromas, and a distinctive vibrancy that makes it an ideal partner for the great white blends of the islands.
Tasting Notes
Platani is distinguished by its clear and refreshing character: Dominated by aromas of lemon and orange, offering an immediate sense of freshness. It has a cool acidity that gives it "nerve," while its aromatic profile is fresh and clean, without heavy elements, highlighting the island's terroir.
Terroir
Southern Aegean: Its cultivation core is in the Southern Cyclades, centered on Santorini, where it survives in old vineyards. Crete: It is also found in Western Crete, maintaining a local character. Viticulture: It is considered an early and productive variety. However, growers must be careful, as it shows sensitivity to botrytis, requiring proper timing in harvesting so that the grape is collected healthy and at its full aromatic maturity.
