Rousaitis Lefkos
Introduction
Rousaitis Lefkos is the white branch of a historic family of varieties closely linked to the Aegean. Although its nomenclature remains fluid in the literature, its recent institutional classification in 2025 as 'Rousiko B' clarifies the landscape, placing it among the rare viticultural treasures awaiting oenological recognition.
Tasting Notes
A fresh profile is expected with dominant citrus (lemon, citron) and notes of white flowers. Its lively acidity is its hallmark, often accompanied by a distinct salty or mineral sensation, typical of Cycladic soils. Usually light to medium-bodied, with an emphasis on purity and freshness.
Terroir
The Cyclades and the islands of the Aegean are the geographical core of the variety. It remains extremely rare, without organized large-scale vineyards. It does not participate in official PDO/PGI zones as a main variety but is preserved in 'mixed' traditional vineyards. It is sporadically found in island terroirs, where viticulturists maintain old vines for the production of local wines.
