Vradyano
Introduction
Vradyano is one of the most impressive cases of revival on the Greek wine map. It is a red variety from Northern Evia, which until a few years ago was considered almost extinct. Thanks to the persistence of local producers, Vradyano has made a strong comeback, offering wines with deep color, robust structure, and a unique personality that balances power and aromatic complexity.
Tasting Notes
Color: Deep purple, opaque. Aromas: A rich palette of black fruits (plum, black cherry), notes of chocolate, sweet spices (cinnamon, clove), and a hint of herbaceousness. Palate: Full-bodied and robust, with high alcohol content and intense tannins that require fatty dishes to shine.
Gastronomy
Rich Meats: Aged beef steak, game (deer or wild boar), and slow-cooked meats in a casserole. Spicy Flavors: Dishes with intense spices or rich red sauces with plums. Aged Cheeses: Mature yellow cheeses, such as a spicy graviera or a smoked Metsovone.
Terroir
Its natural habitat is Northern Evia, specifically the areas of Gialtra and Aidipsos. It is cultivated in volcanic and schist soils, which impart a characteristic minerality to the wine. The climate is Mediterranean, but the proximity to the Euboean Gulf offers beneficial sea breezes that cool the vineyards during the summer months. This helps Vradyano to ripen slowly and steadily (hence its name, which refers to 'slow' in ripening).
