Aggianiotiko
Introduction
Aggianiotiko is an extremely rare red variety from Phthiotis, one of the hidden treasures of Central Greece. It is a variety with its own unique history in the region of Agios Ioannis Theologos (from which it takes its name) and has been dynamically revived in recent years thanks to the persistence of local winemakers.
Tasting Notes
Color: Deep purple, intense and bright. Aromas: A complex palette of black fruits (blackberry, blueberry), notes of licorice, and a subtle sense of spices and herbs of the Greek land. Palate: Rich and full-bodied, with tannins that are present but well-integrated, and a lasting finish leaving notes of chocolate.
Gastronomy
Grilled Meats: Lamb chops, beef steaks, and sausages with leek. Traditional Dishes: Oven-baked giouvetsi or stewed beef with pasta. Cheeses: Aged kasseri, Amfilochia graviera, or spicy cold cuts.
Terroir
It is mainly cultivated in the coastal zone of Locris in Phthiotis. It prefers clay-loam soils, rich in calcium, which have the ability to retain the necessary moisture for the vine, while the proximity to the Euboean Gulf imparts a subtle minerality. The climate is Mediterranean with mild winters and warm summers. The sea breezes are beneficial, cooling the vineyards during the day and allowing the variety to mature smoothly, developing a rich phenolic content.
