Glykadi
Introduction
Glykadi is an extremely rare white variety belonging to the traditional vineyard of the Cyclades, primarily found in Santorini. It is one of the "forgotten" Aegean varieties that have survived through the centuries, forming part of the biodiversity of the island's ungrafted vineyards.
Tasting Notes
Color: Golden yellow, often more intense than other white varieties. Aromas: Notable for aromas of ripe yellow fruits, honey, and nuts, always maintaining the signature Santorini minerality. Palate: Oily and full-bodied, with moderate acidity and a sweet sensation on the finish that justifies its name.
Terroir
Region: Mainly found in Santorini, where it is traditionally cultivated in very small areas. Terroir: As a true child of the volcano, it thrives in soils of volcanic ash and pumice. Its resistance to extreme drought and lack of water is the main characteristic that has allowed it to survive. Climate: Adapted to the fierce Aegean winds, the plant remains low, protected by the traditional "kouloura" method.
