Papadiko
Introduction
Papadiko is a historic red variety from the Ionian Islands, integral to the viticultural identity of Ithaca and Kefalonia. Although it remains a rare and less prominent variety, scientific research brings it to the forefront, revealing close genetic ties with top Greek varieties and highlighting its importance for the biodiversity of the Ionian region.
Tasting Notes
Aromas: Although lacking an official sensory description, its nature as a red Ionian grape suggests a fruity profile, with an emphasis on red fruits. Palate: It is estimated to produce wines with medium body and balanced tannins, following the elegant and less "aggressive" character of the region's red wines.
Terroir
Ithaca: It is the main indigenous variety of the island. Traditionally cultivated in low formations, it is characterized as a dual-purpose variety, used both for winemaking and as a table grape. Kefalonia: Included in the permitted varieties for the production of PGI Plagies Ainos wines, certifying its inclusion in the island's official winemaking framework. Ionian Profile: Its presence is inextricably linked to the mild, maritime climate of the Ionian Islands, where the variety has fully adapted over generations.
