Potamisi
Introduction
Potamisi is a rare, indigenous Greek white variety of the Vitis vinifera family. Its cultivation has a historical presence in the Cyclades (Naxos, Santorini, Tinos, Sifnos) and Kythira.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Ripe fruits (pear, pineapple, citron), flowers (jasmine, chamomile), and herbal notes (thyme). Palate: Rich oiliness, lively acidity, and a rare phenolic sensation for a white wine (mild tannins).
Gastronomy
Pairings: Grilled fatty fish, white meats with lemon sauces, and Japanese cuisine (sushi).
Terroir
Natural Characteristics: Vigorous and productive vine. The grape is large, cylindrical-conical, with a thin yellow-green skin and sweet, aromatic flesh. Cycladic Environment: Naxos (Glynado): Historic vineyards ('Trana Ampelia'), organic and dry farming with very low yields. Tinos: Cultivation at high altitude (350-410 meters) in villages like Falatados and Steni. Special Analysis: Dry farming forces the root system to penetrate deep into the soil, absorbing minerals that give the wine its characteristic 'wet slate' minerality.
