Valaitis (Crete)
Introduction
This is a variety that survived for decades "hidden" in old vineyards, mainly in the Heraklion region, and was considered almost extinct. Today, Cretan winemakers are studying it again, as it offers an interesting alternative with a lighter and fresher profile compared to the island's more robust varieties.
Tasting Notes
Color: Pale lemon with bright highlights. Aromas: Characterized by white-fleshed fruits (pear, melon) and a strong sense of white flowers and herbs from the Cretan land. Palate: It is light to medium-bodied, with a very pleasant "crisp" sensation and a clean finish.
Terroir
Region: Found mainly in the inland areas of Heraklion (such as Archanes and Peza). Adaptation: It is perfectly harmonized with the Cretan terroir, enduring high temperatures, while showing excellent performance at altitudes where nights remain cool. Result: It produces wines with elegant acidity, moving away from the "heavy" style, focusing on finesse.
