Pateromichelakis Winery
Intro
The Pateromichelakis family aims to revive the wine and olive tradition of Crete through authentic wines with terroir character and an organic approach.
Estate
The winery is located in Lousakies Kissamou, Chania, in a valley at an altitude of approximately 200–300 meters, just 4 km from the sea. The family has a tradition in cultivation since the mid-19th century, gradually shifting towards olive cultivation after the phylloxera era. In 2007, Manolis and Giannis Pateromichelakis revived viticulture, reconnecting the family name with Cretan wine.
Vineyards
The estate spans approximately 55 stremmas and is cultivated organically, on sandy clay loam soils with excellent drainage. The altitude of 300 meters, northern orientation, and cool northern/western winds create a cool microclimate that imparts freshness and acidity to the wines. The vineyards cultivate indigenous and international varieties such as Romeiko, Mavrotragano, Syrah, Assyrtiko, and Moschato Spinas. Among the most notable labels are Pateromichelakis Ro (Romeiko), organic with 10 months of barrel aging, highlighting notes of red fruits and tobacco; Pateromichelakis Mavro (Mavrotragano), with aromas of chocolate, leather, and spices, also with 10 months of barrel aging and a high rating on Vivino (4.3/5). Additionally, the Blanc de Noirs Romeiko offers a white version with freshness and balance.
Tourism
Visits to the winery are by appointment, with the possibility of tastings in a space located on the original family estate, offering a genuine and hospitable experience.
