It’s Official: Dimitris Mainos Joins OinoWay.com
← BlogWine lovers everywhere, hello! My name is Dimitris Mainos and I come from the picturesque wine region of Naoussa in northern Greece.
Ever since I was a child, wine has been part of my everyday life. I still remember my mother coming home late at night during harvest season, while in the winters she would take me along to every wine exhibition and event she could find. Looking back, the influences around me were quite clear, and the path I would eventually follow felt almost inevitable. Truth be told, becoming an oenologist was probably the only realistic dream I had growing up, since my ambitions of becoming a football player, astronaut, or dinosaur never quite worked out. (For those who know me, I came fairly close with football — the other two, not so much.)
I graduated from the School of Agriculture at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and completed the Vinifera EuroMaster in Viticulture and Enology at Institut Agro Montpellier and Bordeaux Sciences Agro in France, as well as Hochschule Geisenheim University in Germany. I also conducted my master’s thesis research at UC Davis in California and earned the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines through the Austrian Wine Academy. Since March 2022, I have been working as an Oenologist and Agronomist at Mikro Ktima Titos in Goumenissa.
I would also like to sincerely thank my friend Jason for inviting me to contribute articles to his new project, OinoWay.com. Together, we will explore topics related to vineyard care, viticultural practices, vineyard management, winemaking techniques, tasting methods, and, in general, everything wine lovers are passionate about and eager to discover. I warmly encourage you to send your ideas, questions, and thoughts either here or through social media so we can discuss them together over time.
In the article that follows, we will focus on the vineyard practice of leaf removal — a particularly timely topic for this season. Thank you all for reading this far (once I get started, it’s hard to stop…) and I hope this journey into the fascinating world of viticulture and oenology becomes a source of knowledge, inspiration, and meaningful conversation for all of us.
Cheers!
