Moschatella
Introduction
Moschatella is a refined white variety from the Ionian Islands, with deep roots in Kefalonia and Zakynthos. Although its name suggests aromatic similarities to Muscat, it is a distinct entity offering a more subtle and "island" version of the aromatic character. Today, Moschatella is a key tool in the hands of Ionian winemakers for creating blends with personality and finesse.
Tasting Notes
It produces wines with refreshing acidity and a clear, fruity profile. Aromatically, it leans towards notes of white-fleshed fruits and subtle flowers.
Terroir
Kefalonia: It is one of the "secret weapons" of Kefalonian producers. It participates in some of the island's most interesting blends, offering balance alongside more "wild" varieties like Vostilidi. Zakynthos: It is among the traditional varieties involved in the production of Verdea (PGI Zakynthos), contributing to the aromatic richness of this historic wine. Conditions: As a genuine island variety, it thrives in poor, limestone soils and shows excellent adaptation to the strong winds and heat of the Ionian.
