Georgas Family Winery
Intro
Georgas Family Winery is based in Spata, Attica, in the historic vineyard region of Retsina and Savatiano. The family tradition spans over 380 years, and since 1998, organic practices have been implemented, with a further shift towards biodynamic cultivation in the following years.
Estate
The Georgas family continues into the 4th generation with Dimitris Georgas, while Myrto Georgas (the next generation) has already taken an active role, adding new sparkling expressions and fresh ideas. The estate's vision is to revive local varieties with respect for tradition, while also creating modern, natural wines with minimal intervention.
Vineyards
The vineyards cover approximately 4.5 hectares, with very low yields (~21 hl/ha). Cultivation is done with gentle interventions, without fertilizers and often without the use of sulfur in winemaking. The main varieties are Savatiano, Assyrtiko, Malagouzia, Mandilaria, Agiorgitiko, Merlot, and Syrah. Their labels cover a wide range of styles: Black Label Savatiano, Retsina (Black Label & Koukounara), Malagouzia–Assyrtiko Black Label, and Mandilaria–Savatiano Black Label, “Naturally Sweet,” Hoot series (White, Amber, Red pet-nat). Additional creations include Kokkineli, Piperato, Giomatari, Stafylonero, grape soda, and petimezi.
