Avantis Estate
Intro
Avantis Estate was founded in 1994 by Apostolos Mountrichas in Mytikas, Evia, approximately 45 minutes north of Athens. It is associated with the promotion of the Syrah variety, with the winemaker often called the 'Master of Syrah,' and is also noted for the revival of the rare local variety Mavrokountoura, which is cultivated exclusively on the estate.
Estate
Avantis Estate has received over 300 international awards in top competitions, such as the Decanter Wine Awards and the International Wine Challenge.
Vineyards
The estate has approximately 200 stremmas of privately owned vineyards in the semi-mountainous zone of Afrati, Evia. Cultivated here are: Local Greek varieties: Mavrokountoura, Assyrtiko. International varieties: Syrah, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, among others. Winemaking focuses on highlighting the local terroir with respect for the typicity of each variety.
Tourism
The estate's winery is modernly equipped and receives about 3,000 visitors annually, including school groups. Additionally, Apostolos Mountrichas has expanded to Santorini, reviving a 200-year-old historical Canava, which operates as a model wine tourism site.
