Paraskevas Winery
Intro
Located in Sarhos Malevizi, just 22 km from the city of Heraklion.
Estate
The family's winemaking tradition began in 1950 with Ioannis Paraskevas, who acquired 40 stremmas of vineyards in Sarhos and surrounding areas, creating the first concrete wine press in 1973. The modern winery was established in 2013, and the first bottling was released under the label "Aither." Since 2015, it has been a member of the Wines of Crete network. Senses (Malagouzia), Archos (Vidiano–Moschato), and Aspros Lofos (Vidiano) were awarded at the Thessaloniki International Fair in 2019. In 2021, they received two more awards at the Decanter World Wine Awards: Silver for Vidiano Aspros Lofos and Bronze for Archos – Liatiko–Moschato Spinas.
Vineyards
Forty stremmas of privately owned vineyards are cultivated with Greek varieties such as Malagouzia, Vidiano, Liatiko, Mandilaria, and Moschato Spinas. Harvesting is done manually and only in the morning hours (05:00–11:00) to maintain the excellent quality of the grapes. The winery offers many distinguished labels: Senses (white) – Malagouzia 95% & Moschato Spinas 5%, with aromas of mango, jasmine, night-blooming jasmine, and a rounded character. Archos – Blend of Vidiano & Moschato Spinas (dry white). Aspros Lofos – from Liatiko. 4 Roses – Rosé with Liatiko, Syrah, Mandilaria. Lagará – 100% Mandilaria (dry red). Kerasma – Semi-sweet versions of white and red with various combinations of varieties.
Tourism
The winery accepts visits by appointment, offering tours, tastings, and familiarization with the production process. It has been a member of the wine tourism network Wines of Crete since 2015.
