Ktima Kikkones
Intro
Ktima Kikkones is located at the 5th km of Komotini – N. Sidironchori, near the area of Maronia in Rhodope. It was founded in 2004 by agronomist-oenologist Melina Tassou, with the support of her brother, also an agronomist, Vasilis Tassou. The name honors the ancient Thracian tribe of the Kikones, known in Homeric tradition for wine production approximately 2,500 years ago.

The winery has received significant international awards: Indy International Wine Competition 2006 (USA): 5 medals (2 bronze, 3 silver) for the labels Chardonnay White Dry 2005, Rosé 2005, Syrah 2004, Limnio 2004, Ippeas 2004 (Cabernet/Merlot). Vineyards
The estate cultivates 100 stremmas of privately owned organic vineyards in Maronia, on red clay loam soils with silicate rock content and a climate influenced by the Thracian Gulf and Mount Ismaros. Cultivated varieties: Limnio, Malagouzia, Chardonnay, Syrah, Sangiovese, Merlot, Sauvignon. Winemaking is based on gentle interventions, human supervision, and daily tasting, adopting techniques from Bordeaux and a vine system inspired by Australia.
Tourism
The winery produces approximately 40,000 bottles annually and is the first winery in the Rhodope region with vertical production (from vineyard to bottle). Visits and tastings are conducted year-round by appointment (in Greek & English), with the possibility of tours in the vineyards and the ancient winemaking zone of the Kikones.
