Papantonis Winery
Intro
Papantonis Winery is based in Argos, at the heart of the PDO Nemea, one of the most historic wine-producing regions of the Peloponnese. It was established in 1992–1993 by siblings Antonis and Kallie Papantonis, who combined their expertise in winemaking and marketing to highlight local varieties through small-scale, high-quality production.
Estate
Established in 1992–1993 by siblings Antonis and Kallie Papantonis. The winery has a strong appeal in wine tourism, with excellent visitor reviews, making it one of the most notable boutique wine tourism destinations in Nemea. The wines Meden Agan and Metron Ariston have received international accolades and are featured in lists and reviews abroad.
Vineyards
The winery cultivates approximately 5 hectares (50 stremmas) of vineyards in Malandreni, Argolis, at an altitude of about 350 meters. The area is characterized by a cool, mountainous climate and limestone-clay soils, while its eastern orientation with a view towards the sea contributes to the uniqueness of the terroir. The vineyards have an average age of about 12 years, and the harvest is carried out manually. The main varieties cultivated are Agiorgitiko, Roditis, and Chardonnay. The cultivation is not organic or biodynamic, but special emphasis is placed on vineyard care and low yields to ensure quality.
Tourism
Visitors have the opportunity to tour the facilities and the barrel cellar, enjoying wine tastings accompanied by local delicacies such as traditional cheeses, spinach pie, and olives. The hospitality is personal and cordial, with the participation of the producers themselves. The winery welcomes visitors Monday to Friday, 12:00–14:30, without requiring a reservation, and tours are also conducted in English. Accessibility for people with disabilities is also provided.
