Ktima Montofoli
Intro
Ktima Montofoli is one of the most iconic destinations in Evia, combining rich history with exceptional wine production in an environment of unparalleled aesthetics.
Estate
The estate is located in Palaiochora Karystou, in southern Evia, built on the slopes below the Venetian castle Castello Rosso. After liberation, the estate passed into the hands of the Papamichalis family and later, in 1986, to the Karakastanis family, who undertook the complete restoration of the site.
Vineyards
The estate is globally renowned for the revival of the historic wine 'Karystios'. The area's microclimate, with strong northern winds and schist soil, gives the wines a distinctive character. The main varieties cultivated are Assyrtiko, Aidani, Athiri, and Liatiko. The estate is famous for its dessert wine (sun-dried wine), produced using the traditional method of sun-drying the grapes.
Tourism
Montofoli operates as a fully organized wine tourism complex. Visitors can tour the restored gardens, the winery, and the historic cellar. The estate features independent guesthouses that maintain 19th-century architecture, offering an accommodation experience steeped in history. Due to its unique view of the Bay of Karystos and its aesthetics, it often hosts cultural events and social ceremonies.
