La Tour Melas Winery
Intro
La Tour Melas Winery is located in Achinos, Fthiotida, at an altitude of 150–300 meters, surrounded by oak forests with views of the Aegean Sea. This microclimate, combined with the limestone soil and sea breezes, offers excellent conditions for viticulture.
Estate
The winery was founded in 2000 by Kyros Melas, with the vision of creating an iconic Greek wine with international reach. La Tour Melas has received accolades in international competitions, such as silver medals at the Decanter World Wine Awards (2011) and the China Wine Awards (2014, Best Value). On Vivino, its labels are rated between 4.1–4.5/5, standing out among Greek wines with an international presence.
Vineyards
Eleven hectares were planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, following specialized soil and climate analyses. The underground, gravity-fed winery (2006) was developed over four levels, without the use of pumps, maintaining the natural flow of the wine and respect for the environment. Cultivation follows organic and biodynamic practices, with indigenous yeasts, no filtration, and low sulfites. Labels: La Tour Melas – the flagship blend (Cabernet Franc & Merlot), Cyrus One, Idylle d’Achinos Rosé, Silphium Rosé, Palies Rizes, Nautilus Drink Pink.
