Vaios Gkanis Winery
Intro
Vaios Gkanis Winery is located in Vardali Domokou, in Phthiotis, and represents a modern expression of the family tradition that began a century ago. Under the guidance of Vaios Gkanis, a fourth-generation viticulturist, the winery is associated with the production of organic and vegan wines, combining the heritage of "ancient Phthia" with the most modern winemaking practices.
Estate
The family's history in the industry begins in the 1920s with Kostas Gkanis. After a period of inactivity, the vineyard was revived in 1967 and took its current dynamic form in 2001. The winery is equipped with modern equipment, an atmospheric cellar with oak barrels, and a room with museum exhibits that narrate the history of the place and the family.
Vineyards
The privately-owned organic vineyards cover approximately 85 stremmas at the foothills of Mount Kasidiaris, next to the ancient castle of Proerna. The area's microclimate is characterized by strong contrasts that favor the complexity of the grapes. The estate cultivates Greek varieties such as Agiorgitiko, Assyrtiko, Malagousia, and the rare Roditis Alepou, as well as international ones like Cabernet Sauvignon, Trebbiano, and Gewürztraminer. A unique practice is the use of natural turf in the vineyard for natural soil fertilization.
Tourism
The winery is fully accessible to visitors and offers a comprehensive hospitality experience. Guests can tour the vineyards and production areas, explore the cellar, and conclude in the specially designed tasting area. There, various wine tasting packages are offered (such as the "Arx," "Tesseris Pyles," and "Mythiko Vassilio" series), accompanied by selected local products, providing an authentic taste of the Thessalian plain.
