Silva Daskalakis Winery – Silva Wines
Intro
The winery is located in the village of Siva, in the Municipality of Paliani, Heraklion, within the PDO Dafnes zone.
Estate
The Daskalakis family has been involved in viticulture since the 1920s. The revival of the vineyards began in 1998, and the winery was gradually completed between 2003–2007, with the first bottling in 2004. They have received numerous international awards, the most notable being the Grand Gold Medal for the 'Instinct' Red (Syrah–Kotsifali) of 2006.
Vineyards
The estate covers 70 stremmas of privately owned vineyards on calcareous clay soils. Organic cultivation methods are applied, and in recent years, a biodynamic approach has also been adopted. Both indigenous and international varieties are cultivated: Local: Liatiko, Kotsifali, Thrapsathiri, Malvasia, Vidiano, Moschato Spinas. International: Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon.
Tourism
The winery is open to visitors by appointment and offers: Tours of the vineyard and production area, Wine tastings with selected labels, Event organization with food accompaniment.
