Thrapsathiri
Introduction
Thrapsathiri is cultivated throughout Crete, with exceptional examples mainly in Lasithi (PDO Sitia) and Heraklion. It is a variety that beautifully 'translates' the Cretan terroir, offering wines with body, richness, and a distinctive exotic character.
Tasting Notes
Color: Bright lemon with intense golden highlights. Aromas: Rich aromas of melon, peach, and tropical fruits (pineapple), with hints of herbs and honey. Palate: Full and 'rich' body, with medium acidity and a creamy texture that fills the palate.
Gastronomy
Due to its volume, Thrapsathiri can accompany dishes that might 'intimidate' other whites: Rich Fish: Baked grouper or dusky grouper with potatoes. Cretan Cuisine: Pork with celery or fried rabbit. Asian Cuisine: Pairs excellently with dishes featuring curry or sweet and sour sauces.
Terroir
Terroir: Dry, poor soils, often rocky on the slopes of Lasithi. Climate: Very warm and dry. It is one of the most drought-resistant varieties.
