Ktima Sigalas
Intro
Ktima Sigalas is located in Oia, Santorini, and is one of the island's most significant wineries, with a strong presence in promoting the indigenous varieties of the Santorini vineyard. The estate's vineyards extend across various areas of Santorini, taking advantage of the unique conditions of the island's volcanic terroir. The estate's philosophy is based on preserving the authenticity of the varieties and highlighting the unique identity of Santorini through its wines.
Vineyards
The estate manages approximately 350 stremmas of vineyards, situated at altitudes ranging from 50 to 250 meters. The climate is Mediterranean, coastal, and particularly dry, with an average annual temperature of about 18°C. The vineyards are developed on sandy and volcanic soils, which are a fundamental element of the uniqueness of the Santorini vineyard. The average age of the vines is 70 years, a particularly important factor for the concentration and complexity of the wines produced. Harvesting is done exclusively by hand, following the island's traditional practices. Indigenous varieties: Assyrtiko, Athiri, Aidani, Mavrotragano, Mandilaria. The estate does not cultivate international varieties, choosing to focus exclusively on the indigenous vineyard of Santorini. The annual production amounts to approximately 150,000 bottles, with about 35% of the production exported to international markets.
