Scarpanto Family Winery – Karpathos

Το Scarpanto Family Winery βρίσκεται στην Κάρπαθο, στο Νότιο Αιγαίο, και αποτελεί μια σύγχρονη προσπάθεια αναβίωσης της οινικής παράδοσης του νησιού. Ιδρύθηκε από τη Ντόρα Διακονή και τον Στέλιο Μοτάκη, με στόχο την ανάδειξη του τοπικού terroir μέσα από μικρής κλίμακας, ποιοτικές παραγωγές.
Estate
Scarpanto (the Italian name for Karpathos) was founded by Dora Diakoni and Stelios Motakis. The idea began in 2005, aiming to revive the island's forgotten wine tradition. In 2008, the first vineyards (~8 hectares) were planted outside Menetes, at an altitude of 200–250 meters, influenced by the sea breeze. The first winery was housed in an old abandoned mill, and in 2021 they released their first bottlings.
Vineyards
Their philosophy focuses on creating fresh, authentic wines, with limited aging and small production (~8,000 bottles annually), to clearly express the island's terroir. Afiartis (white blend) – Chardonnay, Malagousia, Assyrtiko; cool and aromatic. Anemoessa (white) – Floral, with crisp acidity and characteristic 'Aegean freshness.' Mylos (red) – From Mandilaria; rich body, fruity and herbal aromas.
Tourism
Visitors can participate in tasting tours in the village of Menetes, sampling the estate's wines in a setting that combines local history, traditional atmosphere, and family hospitality.
