Bakouri
Introduction
Bakouri is one of the most promising "discoveries" of the Peloponnesian vineyard. Although it remained in the shadow of Agiorgitiko for decades—often even confused with it as a local synonym—recent studies and its official inclusion in the National Variety Catalog (2025) highlight it as an independent red variety with a robust personality and significant oenological future.
Tasting Notes
In controlled microvinification, Bakouri exhibited a complex aroma of "forest fruits" and spices. Dry reds with good body, mild to medium tannins, and juicy red/black fruit; in microvinifications, it recorded 13–14% vol, TA ~4.6–5.7 g/L, and is pleasantly drinkable when young.
Terroir
Its main "hub" is in the Peloponnese (especially in the regions of Corinthia, Arcadia, Argolis, Achaia), with very limited plantings. The Wine Institute had already previously suggested its experimental evaluation in the Peloponnesian vineyard.
