Gaidouricha
Introduction
Gaidouricha (or Gaidouricha) is indeed a distinctive, rare red variety primarily found on the Ionian Islands, centered on Zakynthos and secondarily on Kefalonia. Despite the name's similarity to the white "Gaidouria" of the Cyclades, it is a completely different wine entity, part of the traditional Ionian vineyard that winemakers are gradually rediscovering.
Tasting Notes
Color: Deep ruby, quite dense. Aromas: Noted for aromas of ripe red fruits (cherry, sour cherry), herbal notes, and a light earthy sensation. Palate: Robust, with noticeable tannins and moderate acidity. The aftertaste is intense and often leaves a spicy sensation.
Terroir
Region: Its main focus is Zakynthos. It is a variety that was "born" and adapted to the conditions of the Ionian Islands. Terroir: Thrives in the limestone and clay soils of the island. Zakynthos, with its high atmospheric humidity and Ionian rains, requires resilient varieties, and Gaidouricha has proven its endurance over time.
