Katsakoulias
Introduction
Katsakoulias (or Kartsakouli, Gyftokoritho) is a rare Greek table grape variety with triple use, cultivated in limited quantities in Western Greece and the Ionian Islands. It is suitable for fresh consumption, wine, and raisins. This variety features large, flavorful grapes, adapted to poor soils and a Mediterranean climate, maintained by local producers despite modern challenges.
Tasting Notes
Color: Green-yellow to red upon ripening. Aromas: Fresh fruits, citrus, light herbal notes. Palate: Juicy, sweet and sour, crisp, with balanced acidity for fresh use or light wines.
Gastronomy
Local Products: Fresh with honey or yogurt from Zakynthos. Pasta: In salads with olive oil and handmade pasta. Cheese Platter: Feta or graviera from Zakynthos.
Terroir
Region: Aetolia-Acarnania, Zakynthos, Ilia, and Peloponnese. Terroir: Sandy-clay or rocky soils, resistant to drought and strong winds.
