Ladikino
Introduction
Ladikino is a red 'collector's' variety from Crete, one of the most intriguing enigmas of the island's vineyard. Although extremely rare, Ladikino carries significant genetic heritage, as recent research identifies it as one of the 'parents' of the emblematic Romeiko. Today, the variety survives thanks to efforts to preserve Cretan biodiversity, offering aromatic depth to rare red and rosé blends.
Tasting Notes
It produces wines with medium body, balanced structure, and characteristic elegance. Its palate is dominated by red fruits (cherry, raspberry) and subtle floral notes (violet, rose), imparting a sense of freshness.
Terroir
Its natural habitat is Crete, where it is sporadically cultivated on a very small scale. Despite its rarity, it remains officially classified as a wine-producing variety in the national catalog (Government Gazette 2025), allowing for its legal vinification and distribution. The absence of recorded areas in international statistics (2016) highlights the risk of extinction it faced in the past.
