Marditsa
Introduction
Marditsa is a rare, white wine grape variety of the Greek vineyard, a living relic of the viticultural history of Evia. Although it remained in obscurity for years, its official classification and survival in small vineyards around Chalkida testify to a variety with particular resilience and local identity, ready to offer new thrills in the quest for rare indigenous treasures.
Tasting Notes
It is estimated to produce wines with subtle aromas of white fruits and herbs, with a palate that balances between freshness and richness, especially if the sur lie method (contact with the lees) is applied.
Gastronomy
Due to its style, it pairs ideally with seafood and fish from the Evian Gulf, as well as with local white cheeses.
Terroir
It thrives in the limestone soils and the dry, warm climate of Chalkida, showing good resistance to local conditions.
