Xeromachairouda Mavri
Introduction
Xeromachairouda Mavri is the red variant (biotype) of Xeromachairouda and is also known in the local communities of the Cyclades as Mavrorachi. Although it shares the same name and geographical origin with its white 'sister', Mavri Xeromachairouda has its own distinct characteristics, making it a rare link in the chain of Aegean red varieties.
Tasting Notes
Due to its dark skin, it produces wines with satisfactory color intensity. It traditionally participates in local red blends, contributing structure and the distinctive 'wild' character of Cycladic grapes.
Terroir
It is cultivated in the same geographical area as the white Xeromachairouda, mainly in the Cyclades and sporadically in Crete. As a true child of the Aegean, Mavri Xeromachairouda shows exceptional resistance to strong winds and water scarcity, characteristics that make it valuable for the arid island terroirs.
