Estate
Gaia Wines was founded in 1994, with its first wine being Thalassitis from Santorini. Today, it operates two wineries: in Koutsi, Nemea, and Santorini. Approximately 40% of production is exported to Europe, North America, and Australia. Gold award at the TEXSOM International Wine Awards (Dallas) for red wine. High ratings from critics, e.g., 93/100 (A. Tsakiris) for the 2012 vintage.
Vineyards
Nemea: 70 stremmas of privately owned vineyards in Koutsi, ideal for Agiorgitiko. Winery with a capacity of ~300 tons (30,000 hl), fully equipped for high-quality winemaking. Reds: Gaia Estate – 100% Agiorgitiko, with long post-fermentation extraction and 20 months in French oak barrels. Unfiltered. Gaia S – blend of Agiorgitiko with Syrah (~30%), aged 12 months in barrel + 5 months in bottle. Whites & Special Editions: Thalassitis – classic Assyrtiko of Santorini. Thalassitis Barrel – Assyrtiko aged in oak. Assyrtiko Wild Ferment – fermented with indigenous yeasts. Ritinitis Nobilis – modern version of retsina. Anatolikos – sweet dessert wine from Agiorgitiko.
Tourism
The winery in Nemea is open to visitors Wednesday–Sunday (10:30–16:30). Offers: Vineyard tour. Guided tour of production, bottling & aging areas. Tasting of Nemea & Santorini labels.
