DAF Wines
Intro
DAF Wines is a family-owned winery with deep roots located in the mountainous village of Dafnes in the Heraklion region of Crete, an area with a long and significant viticultural tradition. The family's history in vine cultivation and wine production spans more than 117 years, passed down from generation to generation.
Estate
The family's history in vine cultivation and wine production spans more than 117 years. A milestone for the estate was the year 1952, when grandfather Evangelos Douloufakis received the first official distinction for the exceptional quality of his wine at the Thessaloniki International Fair. Today, the third and fourth generations (represented by Fereniki Douloufakis) continue this legacy.
Vineyards
The estate's vineyards (approximately 90 stremmas) are located in the semi-mountainous and mountainous zone of Dafnes, protected in an ideal ecosystem where the altitude, limestone soils, and unique microclimate of the area favor the excellent development of Cretan varieties. Cultivation is based on natural methods, with absolute respect for the biodiversity of the Cretan landscape. Harvesting is done in a traditional, manual way. The winery prioritizes the richness of the Cretan vineyard, with particular emphasis on Liatiko, Dafni, and other indigenous varieties. Indicative labels include Aspri Gi (White), Sanada Mandilari (Red), and Aspri Gi Liatiko (Red).
Tourism
DAF Wines is a welcoming, visitable winery offering an authentic, family experience of Cretan hospitality. Visitors have the opportunity to taste the estate's wines through organized tastings or even wine pairing with Cretan cuisine, and to enjoy unique experiences such as a picnic in the heart of the vineyard at sunset. All visits and tours are conducted by appointment.
