Monemvasia Winery Tsimbidi
Intro
The winery was established in 1997 in Monemvasia, Laconia by Giorgos and Elli Tsimpidis, with the central vision of reviving the historic sweet wine Malvasia. For centuries, Malvasia was a source of fame and wealth for Monemvasia.
Estate
The winery was founded in 1997 in Monemvasia, Laconia by Giorgos and Elli Tsimpidis. With the contribution of oenologist Stavroula Kourakou, the official recognition of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Monemvasia–Malvasia was achieved in 2010.
Vineyards
The cultivation covers approximately 300 stremmas of organic vineyards in the Municipality of Monemvasia, in the areas of Velies and Agios Dimitrios, at an altitude of about 250 meters. The climate is Mediterranean, coastal, and dry, while the soils are limestone, clay, and loam. The average age of the vineyards is 23 years, and the harvest is carried out exclusively by hand. The main labels include Monemvasia–Malvasia, Monemvasia, Assyrtiko, Kydonitsa, Asproudi, and Monemvasios.
Tourism
Monemvasia Estate welcomes visitors by appointment and offers tours and tastings in Greek and English. Visits are conducted daily from 10:00 to 16:00, and currently, there is no access for people with disabilities.
