Gaia Wines Santorini
Intro
GAIA WINES was founded in 1994 by two scientists with deep knowledge and passion for wine. The Santorini winery is housed in an impressive, stone-built industrial building from the early 20th century in the Vrachies area. GAIA WINES exports about 40% of its total production to international markets, and its wines have received numerous international accolades.
Estate
GAIA WINES was founded in 1994 by Yiannis Paraskevopoulos and Leon Karatsalos. The winery is located in the Vrachies area, on the eastern side of Santorini. GAIA WINES exports about 40% of its production to international markets in Europe, North America, Australia, and Brazil.
Vineyards
The vineyards are located on the southern slopes of Episkopi, within the protected PDO Santorini zone. The soil is volcanic, porous, and consists of pumice, volcanic ash, and schist. The climate is Mediterranean Cycladic with mild winters and dry, hot summers. The main variety cultivated is Assyrtiko. All viticultural work and harvesting are done manually.
Tourism
The winery is open to visitors during the tourist season and offers tastings by the sea. Visits are recommended by appointment, and operating hours are daily from 12:00–20:00 from April 29 to October 31. Tours are conducted in Greek and English, and there is access for people with disabilities.
