Katsaros Estate
Intro
Katsaros Estate is located in Kranea Olympus, at an altitude of 650–820 meters, on the slopes of Lower Olympus. The viticultural tradition of the area dates back to antiquity and the Middle Ages, but it had been abandoned until the early 1980s when Dr. Dimitris Katsaros revived the vineyard and established the family winery.
Estate
The first wine was released in 1989, with only 300 bottles. Katsaros Estate has been awarded over 12 gold and 29 silver medals in international competitions. The Chardonnay was named the best Greek Chardonnay (UK, 2007, 2009, 2010), while its red blend was recognized as the best Greek red wine in Canada (1996). The French magazine La Revue du Vin de France ranks the estate among the top 100 non-French wineries worldwide.
Vineyards
The vineyards cover approximately 90 stremmas and are cultivated using organic practices. Plantings include international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay, while local varieties are also being experimentally tested. Katsaros Estate Red: Blend 80% Cabernet Sauvignon – 20% Merlot. Chardonnay: White dry with intense aromatic complexity. 100% Merlot: Elegant, with ripe red fruits and velvety tannins. Valos (Xinomavro): Local expression with strong structure.
Tourism
The winery has a tasting room and is open to wine enthusiasts who wish to explore the vineyard, facilities, and wines up close. Visits are organized upon request.
