Priknadi (or Prekniariko)
Introduction
Priknadi (or Prekniariko) is a rare and particularly interesting white Greek grape variety, an integral part of the country's winemaking heritage. The variety has its roots in the viticultural zone of Naoussa, in Imathia, and its uniqueness is highlighted both by the etymology of its name and its distinctive organoleptic profile.
Tasting Notes
Aromas: Rich bouquet of flowers and citrus fruits. Oak influence: When aged in barrel, it develops complex notes of smoke, roasted nuts, marmalade, and caramel. Palate: Characterized by a round and generous character, medium body, and balanced acidity.
Gastronomy
Seafood: Grilled fish, shellfish (due to acidity & citrus notes). Meats: White meats (chicken, pork) with light sauces. Spicy: Dishes with spices (the rich flavor balances the intensity). Cheeses: Aged yellow cheeses (especially for barrel-aged versions).
Terroir
Epicenter: Naoussa and the wider region of Imathia. Distribution: Also found in scattered vineyards in Northern and Central Greece, and is a recommended variety in Thessaly. Institutional Recognition: Participates in the production of P.G.I. Imathia and P.G.I. Thessaly wines.
