Kontozisis Organic Vineyards
Intro
The Kontozisis Organic Vineyards winery is located at the foothills of the Agrafa mountains, between the villages of Kanalia and Dafnospilia (Karditsa/Trikala region). Founded in 1991, it was one of the first certified organic viticulturists in Greece, emphasizing sustainable cultivation and the natural expression of terroir.
Estate
Founded in 1991, the winery is a member of the international Raw Wine movement, with a consistent presence at international exhibitions and natural wine networks. According to Discover Greece, it is a "pioneer in proper winemaking with local varieties such as Limniona, Malagousia & Assyrtiko."
Vineyards
The philosophy focuses on quality over quantity, with low yields (~28 hl/stremma) from approximately 11 stremmas of privately owned vineyards. All practices are organic, without fertilizers or irrigation, and natural winemaking is applied (without cultivated yeasts, often without sulfites). Both indigenous and international varieties are cultivated, with an emphasis on Limniona and Malagousia. Assyrtiko, Roditis, Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah, and Xinomavro are also found. Winemaking is low-intervention, with natural expressions and an orange/natural character. Notable labels include: A-Grafo Limniona Ancestral Pet-Nat (Rosé), A-Grafo Malagousia (Orange Wine), A-Grafo Roditis (Orange Wine), Sun Malagousia / Sun White.
Tourism
The winery is open to visitors by appointment. The experience often combines tastings and local meals in picturesque villages of the area, offering an authentic agritourism experience.
