Makedon Winery - Nico Lazaridi
Intro
Nico Lazaridi Winery was founded in 1987 by Nikos Lazaridis, an entrepreneur with a passion for wine, bringing modern winemaking to Drama.
Estate
The main winery, known as Château Nico Lazaridi, has been located in the community of Agora, Drama since 1997, on a privately owned vineyard of 650 stremmas. In 2000, the second winery, Makedon, was established in Platanotopos, Kavala (Mount Pangaio), producing wines with PGI Pangaio – Macedonia. The company produces over 1,300,000 bottles annually, exporting to 21 countries.
Vineyards
In Agora, Drama, there is a 4,000 sq.m. complex with production areas, bottling facilities, an underground cellar, a tasting room, and the Magic Mountain Gallery. The Greek varieties cultivated on the estate include Assyrtiko, Malagousia, Moschato, Xinomavro, and Mavroudi. The international varieties are Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Ugni Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, and Sangiovese.
Tourism
Nico Lazaridi is open to visitors Monday to Friday except Tuesday from 09:00–15:00 (last tour at 14:00) and on weekends from 11:00–17:00 (last tour at 15:00). The visit includes a tour of the vineyards, production facilities, cellar, and Magic Mountain Gallery, as well as a combination of a tour with wine tasting.
