Monemvasia Winery- Tsimbidi
Intro
The winery was founded in 1997 by Giorgos Tsimbidi with the aim of reviving the historic Malvasia, the iconic sweet wine named after the city of Monemvasia, which dominated the European market for three centuries.
Estate
The winery was established in 1997 by Giorgos Tsimbidi. In 2010, the PDO Monemvasia–Malvasia was recognized, and in 2013, the first bottling was released. Today, the management is undertaken by Giorgos's daughters, Marialena and Anastasia Tsimbidi, continuing their father's vision.
Vineyards
The first plantings of local varieties such as Monemvasia, Kydonitsa, Asproudi, and Mavroudi were made in 2005, on lands that are now organically cultivated (~30 hectares in the areas of Velies and Agios Dimitrios). The vineyards are located in a hilly area of Monemvasia, at an altitude of 250–300 meters, with schist and clay-loam soils. The microclimate is characterized by hot, dry summers and mild winters, while the sea breeze (meltemia) ensures balance and freshness in the wines. Wines and labels include: PDO Monemvasia–Malvasia, Voltes Red, Dry Monemvasia, Panther Rosé 2023, Assyrtiko, Limniona, Kydonitsa, and other terroir-driven wines.
