Eighty Winery (Afoi Bakali)
Intro
80 Winery is located in Vasilika, Thessaloniki, at the foothills of Mount Chortiatis, and is a modern "boutique" winery that revives a family tradition of nearly a century.
Estate
Founded in 2017 by brothers Christos and Panagiotis Bakalis, who combined their studies (Agronomy and Mechanical Engineering respectively) with their passion for their homeland, breathing new life into the vineyard planted by their grandfather in 1933.
Vineyards
The estate's vineyards are located next to Droupalia, a tributary of Anthemountas, in soil that offers particularly high-quality characteristics to the grapes. The winery focuses on highlighting local varieties, producing wines with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Macedonia. The white varieties are dominated by Malagousia and Assyrtiko, while the red varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Cultivation is carried out with respect for the ecosystem, aiming for wines that express the authenticity of the Vasilika microclimate.
Tourism
80 Winery offers one of the warmest and most "personal" wine tourism experiences very close to Thessaloniki (about 25 minutes from the center). Visitors are welcomed by the owners themselves, Panagiotis and Metaxia, and have the opportunity to tour the vineyard, processing areas, and the cellar with oak barrels. Tastings are accompanied by local cheeses and cold cuts, often under the sounds of relaxing music, offering a complete escape from the city's daily life.
