Kechris Estate
Intro
Kechris Estate is located in Kalohori, Thessaloniki, approximately 10 km from the city center. It elevates retsina to the fine wine category, with international recognition. Emphasis on Greek varieties, with Xinomavro being predominant. A blend of tradition and innovation: 4 generations of family with modern expertise and scientific research.
Estate
The family tradition began in 1939 with the tavern 'O Kokoras' in Peristeri, Thessaloniki. The first winery was established in 1954 in Kalohori by the Kechris brothers. In 1984, Stelios Kechris took over winemaking. 'Tears of the Pine' has been internationally recognized as a top example of retsina, with Best in Show at the Decanter World Wine Awards (97/100). Kechris Estate is considered a global standard for retsina. Production reaches 1.2 million bottles annually, with exports to 19–24 countries.
Vineyards
The vineyards are located on the slopes of Paiko (PDO/PGI Goumenissa, Kilkis), with integrated cultivation (Agro 2-1 & 2-2) and strict quality control. Emphasis is placed on Greek varieties: Xinomavro, Assyrtiko, Roditis, as well as white/red blends. It is the only winery in Greece that systematically develops scientific research on retsina, in collaboration with Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
