Skiouros Winery
Intro
Skiouros Winery is a unique and modern example of an urban winery, as its headquarters and winemaking facilities are located in Toumba, Thessaloniki. Despite the urban nature of its production base, the winery maintains strong ties with the viticultural tradition of Macedonia, as its raw materials come from selected vineyards in the historic region of Amphipolis, Serres, at the foothills of Mount Pangaion.
Vineyards
The collaborating vineyards extend on the slopes around Amphipolis, Serres, in a location where the microclimate is beneficially influenced by Mount Pangaion and the breezes of the Strymonic Gulf. The soils are mainly clay-loam with good drainage. Harvesting is done manually in the early morning hours, and the grapes are immediately and carefully transported to the winery in Thessaloniki. The winery is equipped with stainless steel tanks with precise temperature control for white and rosé winemaking, as well as French and American oak barrels for aging red wines. It presents a series of conceptual labels with unique names, based on indigenous and international varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Assyrtiko, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Malagousia, and Xinomavro.
Tourism
Due to its nature as an urban winery and its location within the residential zone of Toumba, the winery is not open to the public, nor does it operate as a venue for wine tourism tours or mass tastings.
