Idaia Winery
Intro
Idaia Winery is located in the village of Venerato, Malevizi province, just 17 km south of Heraklion, within the PDO Dafnes zone. The winery was founded in 1998 by oenologists Vasilis Laderos and Kalliopi Volitaki, with the aim of highlighting indigenous varieties and the Cretan terroir.
Estate
The winery was established in 1998. It is located in the village of Venerato, Malevizi province, within the PDO Dafnes zone. The annual production amounts to approximately 135.000 bottles, with 35% exported to markets such as North America, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Poland.
Vineyards
Idaia Winery owns approximately 30 stremmas of vineyards and collaborates with another 40 stremmas. The terroir is characterized by calcareous, clay soils at an altitude of 300–500 meters, with a cool Aegean microclimate. Indigenous varieties (Kotsifali, Mandilaria, Liatiko, Vidiano, Vilana, Thrapsathiri) and international ones (Syrah, Grenache Rouge) are cultivated. Tourism
The winery welcomes visitors and is characterized as a "wonderful family winery" with a hospitable atmosphere. Wine tastings and tours are accompanied by a sense of authenticity and local spirit.
