Moschofilero
Introduction
Moschofilero is the 'diva' of the Greek vineyard, a charming and highly aromatic variety associated with the plateau of Mantineia. Although its skin is pink or grayish (gris), it is mainly vinified as a white wine, offering wines with explosive freshness and finesse.
Tasting Notes
Color: Very pale lemon with gray or pinkish highlights. Aromas: A symphony of rose, lemon blossom, bergamot, and Turkish delight. Palate: Light body, 'nervous' acidity, and a very clean citrus aftertaste.
Gastronomy
Asian Cuisine: Sushi, spicy Thai dishes, and cuisine with intense aromatic herbs. Seafood: Small fried fish, shellfish, and lemony calamari. Aperitif: It is the ideal wine to start a meal or accompany a platter of fruits and soft cheeses.
Terroir
Terroir: The heart of Moschofilero beats in the PDO Mantineia, on a plateau with an average altitude of 650 meters. The soils are mainly clay-loam, providing the necessary balance for the variety's development. Climate: It is one of the coldest viticultural zones in Greece. The low temperatures and slow ripening (harvest often reaches October) are the keys that 'lock in' the intense aromas and high acidity. Result: Wines with low alcohol, crystalline acidity, and a refreshing sensation reminiscent of mountain air.
